A series of shrill chimes announces the activation of the public address system: “Environmental systems integration in progress. Residents may experience intermittent grid disruptions. Do not be alarmed.”
An alert klaxon screams for attention. Then another…and another. From every corner, their wailing song swells into a horrific chorus that echoes throughout the city.
Block by block, sector by sector, a cascade of systemic failures races across the grid. Lights surge and are extinguished. The great air circulation fans slowly wind down, and even the rain in East trickles to a stop.
In a matter of minutes the whole of InSilico is plunged into darkness. All that is, save for the South East.

Lights flicker back into existence, and the darkness recedes. A cool breeze cuts through the stagnating air as the city breathes itself back to life one system at a time.
