A Disclaimer is a disclaimer...and as such, please understand that the thoughts below are my own in light of the current situation.
EDIT: Linden Lab seems to be cooperative in keeping the sims alive so far.

If you'd prefer to hear the words directly from Skills herself:
and there is a discussion currently taking place on the SLU forums.

“All good things come to an end.” A cliché saying, but one that is none-the-less true. We knew this day would come eventually. Whether it would be for financial reasons, burn-out, or even just good ol’ drama; we all expected the end to come along one day. And probably sooner, rather than later, given InSilico’s longevity and legacy on the grid.

But I don’t think any of us really expected it all to end quite like this…Not with a whimper or bang. Not from the natural death it probably deserves…but from being locked-out. Just a single email from Linden Labs to notify InSilico’s owner that her accounts had once again been banned from Second Life for “reasons.” And Poof! Gone again. Unfortunately, unlike the events of a few weeks ago that were promptly overturned, it appears that this ban is here to stay. The Lindens have doubled down on their vagueness and will not discuss the matter further. They will make no clarification as to the accusations, and have rejected any pleas for appeal…as Ami Linden said, “Please consider the matter resolved.” In other words, THE END.

Needless to say that the current admins have discussed alternatives to carry it on, but the general consensus is that it just probably isn’t feasible. Even if the sims could be moved under a new owner, the costs and time associated with setting it up again would be prohibitive. And more so, who would even want to undertake that given the current uncertainty and diminishing returns that is Second Life? If anything it would be better to start fresh with a new sim and build, perhaps even on a new grid…But then that would just be InSilico in name only. Same franchise, different flavor. Either way, the InSilico that we know today will still be gone.

So if this really is to be the end, let it be the end. Some will be saddened, and some will no doubt rejoice. After all, InSilico as it is…was…survived 8 long years in Second Life. Longer than most others, and longer than some might have hoped. Everyone will come away from this with their own unique memories and perspectives. That’s just how it is when a place creates as much history as InSilico has. We’ve had our ups and downs, celebrations and regrets, great dramas and greater stories. Every decision and outcome that made InSilico what it was is also responsible for making it such a memorable place…Personally, I will look back fondly.

In memory of the people that helped make InSilico memorable to me…off the top of my head, in no particularly order, significance or sentiment, alts included.

Damn seriously, Insilico's been the only place in SL lately that's held my attention past 15 minutes.  Everything else's degraded back to random dance clubs with a blocky Optimus Prime grinding on a poseball,

'Everything changes, nothing is really lost.'
In a very real sense the soul of the city is the Ning.
Still...what would it cost to archive the body,
in the hope of a future resurrection ?

The ambiguous details to which LL is not engaging Skills over is rather disturbing.
Hopefully this URL won't auto transform into a truncated hyper-link that does not work.

that link is from the 2/26 banning. the one Abe linked is about the current, and apparently sticking, ban

^that is the working link for what Skills has to say about what's going on right now

Nyusha, your link works, and the comments are very informative. Thanks.

I suspect the Lindens are making bad decisions due to their own problems.

I reveal my ignorance, again; Does LL still have a monopoly on
SL style software, or are there competitive products available ?

Well, as always on SLUniverse, the ratio of useful information to drama and name-calling was extremely low, but Skills' posts didn't sound very hopeful.

Blargh. Fixed the truncated link in the blog.
