We've run some benchmarks to compare the performance of the original scripting engine and the Mono VM. When we run the tests side by side we found that Mono is up to 220x faster than LSL2. These benchmarks were math intensive scripts usually used to evaluate performance. It should be noted that for ordinary scripts the gains are much more humble.
Mono uses more memory than the typical LSL bytecode. It offsets this by introducing dynamic memory allocation. With LSL2, a full 16K is… Continue

i just recompiled all of my scripts to mono, so the sim performance (which is constant at max) will be even better. i hope the vendors will go mono soon aswell.. more laglessness for us:) and im still working on improving viewer fps.
btw, good to see the rules discussion so active! wtg.. i hope we can define the ruleset and kick off rp soon.

Erik started an important discussion here
, please check it out and comment!
We want your input. Lets talk about what should and shouldn't be "allowed" in terms of roleplay. Every great roleplaying world is made so by the imposition of certain restrictions that reinforce the concept/theme/story. Insilico is no different. We seek to create a deep, detailed roleplaying environment that people can enjoy and… Continue

waiting to be worked on.
I have tested several combat systems but couldnt find one that fits our needs.

After some little regeneration we continued work on the city. as you - observant citizen - might have already noticed, the global lighting changed slightly to a brighter, more white light and the texture fairy started replacing the temp textures here and there with better ones (i don't want to say final hehe). We cleaned up alot and rebuilt a few structures. The Blue Ant Bar, Strip Club and the Diner are finished and i started working on the first, still unnamed club (the pyramid). next are the… Continue

INSILICO is a dark futuristic metropolis, slowly floating several thousand meters high above the clouds. One of many cities, serving as the last airborne asylums for the small extant human population since the earth has been flooded. Each of them is connected to its own reactor farm on the bottom of the sea with long, heavily guarded cables, protected against eco terrorists and different groups of rebelling cyborgs and labor-androids trying to take down the cities.
Surrounded by huge… Continue

A more detailled review from Hamlet: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2008/06/new-world-slurl.html
He visited the city after his post last week to see it with his own eyes and i spotted him on my radar, standing there agape and looking up to the skyline. I took him to the penthouse just for the view! Was very nice to meet him.

The photo widget seemed to be causing a browser lag with a scripting error. I'll check on the Ning Developer groups about it. Have disabled it in the meantime but will turn the video widget back on, so feel free to use WeGame to film your Insilico Experiences, then share them with everyone here!

"When the landmark image rezzed, I'll admit that I thought it hadn't been taken inworld, and it piqued my curiosity enough for me to head over to INSILICO (153,131, 3615) to investigate further."
Thus Voodoo Buwan, writer for Rez Magazine, and an in-world friend of mine, found our beloved floating city and fell for its many high tech charms. Check out his article
& interview with sim creator Skills Hak.

New World Notes
, Wagner James Au’s SL blog, has a new article on Insilico just posted. Well, to be more exact its really an article about another article that was written recently by our friend Voodoo Buwan, but we still appreciate the attention, even if he calls it a Dystopian Metropolis Shopping Mall, which it sure ain’t.

Ever since the incident which left my synapses slightly frazzled I've been hearing voices.
No no, I'm not talking about some schizoid nonsense where I'm going to run amok with a gun and blame it on god or bod or whatever. I'm talking about the electronic noise from all the activity.
The radio transmissions from city to city. The cybernetic noises of servos and manipulators tick tocking as they make constant microadjustments and the sizzle of AI minds as they make their decisions large… Continue
